STAR STRUCK Gerard Butler reckons new astronaut flick Geostorm will be out of this world after he was inspired by real-life space missions
The 47-year-old Scot prepared for the challenging role by watching hours and hours of footage of American astronaut Mike Massimino
47-летний шотландец готовился к сложной роли, наблюдая часы и часы съемок американского астронавта Майка Массимино
He says: “I was expecting most of the sets to be CGI, but the physical environments they built were mind-blowing.
“When I came on to the space station and saw how elaborate and intricately detailed the shuttle docking bay and the ISS command centre were, I was in awe.
“The suit weighed about 65lbs.
“On top of that, we were hanging in the air with all kinds of harnesses and rigs, but you have to stay completely relaxed since you are supposed to be weightless.
“It’s exceptionally uncomfortable to do — but it looks incredible on screen.”

He has also previously revealed that he suffered a terrifying allergic reaction on set.
Gerard, originally from Paisley, says: “I was wearing a spacesuit and it was really hurting hanging on those wires so I asked a doctor to give me bee venom, which has anti-inflammatory compounds.
“He’s supposed to just give me one, but he ends up giving me ten, and I had an allergic reaction and pretty much thought I was going to die. My arm swelled right up.”
Gerard was so keen to appear in the film — also starring Andy Garcia, Jim Sturgess and Ed Harris — that he contacted director Dean Devlin to ask for a part.
He says: “What attracted me to this story was that it had a powerful mixture of everything.
